Message from the Chair

Article 1 of 14 in PAM Bulletin Vol 39, No 2

by Ruth Kneale

Well, here we are facing the end of another year full of excitement, learning, and travel. This will be my last message to you as Division Chair, and I want to start off by saying a huge THANK YOU. I have had a fantastic (and sometimes frazzling) time as Chair, and it’s all due to you, the amazing members of PAM. I can’t tell you how much I have appreciated this time, and how honored I am to serve the division. Fear not, I’m sticking around – you won’t get rid of me that easily – but we’re in excellent hands with our Chair-Elect, Nisa Bakkalbasi, and I have no worries for the division’s future.

As I write this, the polls are still open for our new staff; Barbara Kern will be joining me in moving off the Executive Board in December, after two years as an excellent Division Treasurer. Elizabeth Brown will be continuing her great work through 2012 as Division Secretary, welcoming the new Treasurer and Chair-Elect.  Emily Poworoznek will get to take a break after three years of wonderful service to the Division, as she gives up the Past-Chair position. We have a great slate of committee chairs and members, folks who have stepped up to keep the Division active, vibrant and diverse. I truly feel that we are one of the best Divisions in the Association!

It has been a busy year; we’ve seen folks leave, welcomed new members, had a smashing annual conference in Philadelphia, saw the debut of our new web site, and continued our efforts into social networking. The annual conference was well-attended, and we got some great feedback from the attendees; that feedback will be folded into future conference planning. We geared our strategic planning back up for a fresh new look at the Division’s goals and priorities; the survey is still open as I write this, and I’m looking forward to hearing what you have to say. We have some potentially difficult decisions to make in the days to come, but I have no doubt we’ll come out of it stronger and more able to catch whatever curveballs the economy, the profession or the Association toss our way. If you’d like to be part of those discussions and decisions, please let anyone on the Board know!

Next year is the Division’s 40th anniversary – amazing but true – and I’m so pleased to be a part of it as we move into our future. Thank you for this opportunity, and I look forward to continuing to serve the Division in any way I can.
